## Gradients Maps

Here’s a colorized strange attractor. I achieved this look by mapping an RGB gradient to a 16-bit greyscale image array in Python. I then took it into GIMP to add the glow effect.

very cool!

I haven’t touched attractors since school (long ago) and never with graphics programming…do you recommend a tutorial to get started with this?

Well, I can’t really think of a tutorial for these things. However, if you check out the rest of my posts I have tried to explain what I’m doing at each stage and I’ve posted quite a bit of Python code as-well. That might be enough to get you started!

http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ has mathematical descriptions of many fractals and attractors, such as http://mathworld.wolfram.com/StrangeAttractor.html.
